Two honest limitations

First, VGA is an analogue video signal and carries no audio. If you need sound in the room, run a separate 3.5mm audio lead — this is normal for VGA installations and catches people out every time.

Second, both devices need an actual VGA port. If your new laptop only has HDMI or USB-C, this cable will not help on its own — you would need a converter for that side of the connection. Check the socket before you order and you will not be disappointed.

Does a VGA cable carry sound?

No. VGA is video only. For audio in a classroom or meeting room, run a separate 3.5mm audio lead alongside it.

Will it work with my projector?

Yes, if the projector has a 15-pin VGA input — often labelled “Computer In” or “PC”. The screw-in connectors also hold the cable in place in a ceiling-mounted unit or a wall plate.

My new laptop has no VGA port. Can I still use this?
