Daisy-chain two screens from one port

MST support means that if your graphics card and your monitors both support DisplayPort daisy-chaining, you can run a cable from the PC to the first monitor and a second cable from that monitor’s DisplayPort output to the next one — a second screen without a second cable trailing back to the tower. Both the graphics card and the first monitor need to support MST for this to work; the monitor’s specification will list a DisplayPort output if it does.

Honest limitations

Both ends are full-size DisplayPort male connectors. This cable does not fit a mini DisplayPort socket without an adapter, and it will not connect a DisplayPort output to an HDMI monitor — for that you need our DP to HDMI cable. It also cannot connect a USB-C laptop to a DisplayPort screen; our USB-C to DisplayPort cable does that job.

The resolution and refresh rate you end up with are set by your graphics card and your monitor, not by the cable — a DisplayPort connection runs at whatever both ends negotiate. What resolution and refresh rate will I get?

A DisplayPort connection runs at whatever your graphics card and monitor negotiate between them, so the answer depends on your hardware rather than the cable. If you are aiming at a particular combination — 4K at a high refresh rate, or an ultrawide at 144Hz — send us your graphics card and monitor models before ordering and we will confirm whether this cable is the right one for you.

What does the locking connector do?

It clips into the DisplayPort socket so the cable cannot be pulled out accidentally. To unplug it, press and hold the release button on the connector while pulling — pulling on the cable alone will not release the latch.

Can I daisy-chain two monitors with it?

Yes, if your hardware supports it. The cable supports MST, so with a graphics card that supports DisplayPort MST and a first monitor that has a DisplayPort output, you can run PC to monitor one, then monitor one to monitor two. Both the card and the first monitor need to support MST.

Will it fit a mini DisplayPort port, or plug into an HDMI monitor?

No to both. Both ends are full-size DisplayPort. A mini DisplayPort socket needs an adapter, and to drive an HDMI monitor from a DisplayPort output you need our DP to HDMI cable instead.

Does it carry audio to my monitor’s speakers?

Yes. DisplayPort carries audio and video together, so a monitor with built-in speakers or a headphone socket can take its sound through this cable.
